About The Position

The Corporate Development Specialist at Black Hills Energy is responsible for leading due diligence efforts to assess project viability and support critical growth objectives. This role involves financial modeling, risk assessments, and monitoring industry trends to identify business growth opportunities. The specialist will collaborate with cross-functional teams and present findings to senior leadership and the Board of Directors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in corporate development, finance, accounting, investment banking, or engineering.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with contract negotiations, risk assessment, and due diligence related to new business ventures.
  • Experience with financial metrics including return on investment calculations and cost-benefit analysis.
  • In-depth knowledge of regulatory processes and innovative tariff design in the energy or utility industry.
  • Knowledge of FERC and GAAP accounting principles and IRS tax issues as they pertain to corporate development.
  • Working understanding of utility operations.
  • Strong organizational skills to handle competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for conveying complex topics to diverse audiences.
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills for performing sophisticated analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Lead cross-functional teams in the assessment and due diligence of new projects, potential investments or acquisitions.
  • Perform financial modeling and analysis on potential capital investments, case development, feasibility models, valuations, and scenario analysis for utilities and power production.
  • Identify and pursue growth opportunities, conducting analytical evaluations related to due diligence and developing business plans for new projects and partnerships.
  • Develop proposed regulatory solutions for new opportunities and vet solutions with regulatory team partners.
  • Present elaborate data analysis and projects to the Board of Directors, senior leadership, customers, and other external parties as requested.
  • Conduct post-project economic analysis on major initiatives to ensure economic and strategic objectives are achieved.
  • Support the business development department with feasibility analysis, risk assessments, contract discussions, and development of tariff offerings.
  • Develop analytical and technical expertise in areas including renewable energy, electric vehicles, and regulatory issues.
