The Opportunity Join AssetMark’s Corporate Development team at the center of our growth agenda—supporting the evaluation and execution of acquisitions, strategic investments, and partnerships that shape the future direction of the business and the advisor experience. AssetMark’s Corporate Development team partners with senior leadership and key stakeholders across Finance, Product, Technology, Legal, Compliance, and Operations to identify, evaluate, and execute acquisitions, strategic investments, and partnerships that advance AssetMark’s strategy and long-term value creation. From early market and target assessment through deal execution and post-close value realization, Corporate Development drives rigorous analysis, disciplined process management, and clear, executive-ready decision support. Working closely with Corporate Strategy to align priorities—and with Integration Management to translate business cases into outcomes—the team brings structure, pace, and accountability to complex initiatives, offering a fast-paced environment with broad exposure, meaningful impact, and a front-row seat to the evolution of wealth management and wealthtech. This is an undergraduate internship designed for a high-performing student who can be trusted to execute responsibilities with high attention to detail, professionalism, and strong follow-through, while learning the fundamentals of corporate development through hands-on work and mentorship. The position reports directly to the VP, Corporate Development. Hybrid work requirement (hard requirement): This is a hybrid role based in Concord, CA; candidates must be able to work on-site on a regular cadence.

Requirements

  • No formal M&A experience required; prior internships in finance, strategy, consulting, investment management, or related fields are a plus.
  • Demonstrated interest in corporate development, M&A, strategy, wealth management, wealthtech, and/or fintech.
  • Strong Excel and PowerPoint capabilities (or the ability to ramp quickly); comfort working with data and producing clean work product.
  • Strong research and synthesis skills; ability to turn messy inputs into clear, structured summaries.
  • High attention to detail and strong organization (you double-check facts, numbers, and formatting).
  • Professional communication skills and discretion with sensitive information.
  • Coachable and curious—eager to learn and quick to apply feedback.
  • High ownership and reliability—follows through, anticipates needs, and takes pride in being someone the team can count on.
  • Strong work ethic and flexibility—comfortable supporting time-sensitive deadlines when deal timelines accelerate.
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or a related field (undergraduate only).
  • Minimum GPA: 3.5 (or equivalent).
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the US to be considered. We are unable to provide visa sponsorship for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Pipeline support & opportunity tracking Support the VP, Corporate Development in maintaining pipeline trackers/dashboards, target lists, and screening materials (status updates, next steps, meeting prep). Conduct market, company, and competitor research; summarize findings into crisp one-pagers and slide-ready insights. Support outreach and meeting workflows by preparing background research, agendas, notes, and action-item follow-ups for internal and external meetings (e.g., bankers, investors, potential partners/targets).
  • Transaction execution support Assist with the deal process by organizing information and analyses that support evaluation and diligence (e.g., business profiles, customer/market research). Support preparation of executive-ready materials (PowerPoint and written updates) with a premium on accuracy, clarity, and consistency. Help maintain strong “deal hygiene” (version control, file organization, task lists) so workstreams stay organized and moving.
  • Diligence “deal mechanics” (hands-on, high-precision) Support data rooms, information requests, and diligence trackers—ensuring requests are logged, materials are organized, and teams have what they need. Coordinate logistics across internal partners (Finance, Legal, Compliance, Tax, Product, Technology, Operations, HR) and external advisors as needed (scheduling, document routing, follow-ups).
