Provides legal advice on a wide range of employment, labor and business matters; providing subject matter expertise on key employment policies and documentation, and collaborating with Human Resources and key leaders on business issues and employee relations, training, policies and related activities. Oversees outside counsel to ensure that litigation is handled in a cost effective and efficient manner. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Counsels funeral home and cemetery affiliates regarding legal issues that arise in their locations on a daily basis in order to minimize liability. Reviews and drafts contracts for both corporate and regional management in a manner that achieves the company’s objectives and reduces risks. Provides legal advice to assigned area(s) of responsibility to include: Consumer Issues Regulatory compliance Employment Trademark and copyright law Advertising programs Real estate matters Conducts training sessions at regional meetings in order to educate local management regarding the appropriate manner of handling consumer issues and help prevent future litigation. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education: Doctor of Jurisprudence from an accredited law school Certification: Admission to the Bar of at least one state Experience: Three (3) years of years of experience as an attorney (preferably with a background in litigation, labor/employment or contract drafting Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Inter-personal skills, awareness and confidence to work effectively with all levels of staff including executive teams, government and regulatory agencies, outside counsel and professional organizations Advanced contract and legal document drafting skills Advanced problem-solving and reasoning skills Proven negotiation and advocacy skills Proficiency in organizing and handling complex regulatory filings Skills in MS Office applications, mathematics and statistics Organizational skills, time management and project management skills to handle detailed work with multiple concurrent priorities and constituents Detail-oriented, flexible and creative Adaptable to work with various business entities within a local and enterprise-wide culture Ability to direct work of paralegal and administrative support staff with value placed on teamwork Postal Code: 77019 Category (Portal Searching): Legal Job Location: US-TX - Houston Who we are.
