We’re looking for a strategic, proactive Corporate Counsel to develop and lead the execution of risk management strategies, and to advise the organization on applicable legal matters. The position will report to the Chief Legal Officer.
Lead integration of risk management policies and procedures throughout the organization.
Negotiate and draft agreements and contracts on behalf of the organization.
Monitor and continually improve contract negotiations, prequalification process, insurance and bonding programs, and operational procedures.
Collaborate with Chief Legal Officer to devise efficient defense strategies and manage all claims.
Maintain current knowledge of alterations in legislation and anticipate unique legal issues that could affect the organization.
Develop organizational policies on industry specific issues, corporate governance, and regulatory affairs.
Provide training to the organization on applicable legal and risk management topics.
Collaborate with Chief Legal Counsel to enhance and/or develop organizational risk management strategies.
Build relationships in three directions: Downwards by building relationships of trust with the workforce, Upwards by creating a strong bond with Chief Legal Counsel and other executives and operational frontline managers, Outwards by developing positive interactions with suppliers, subcontractors, carriers, and clients.
Demonstrate clear objectives, plans, KPI’s, and transparent outlines of benefits.
Advise on legal matters to operations team members throughout the organization.
Uphold brand standards and contribute to evolution of the brand.
Continuously reinforce the core values and manifesto, leading by example.
Manage the client and subcontractor experience proactively.
Communicate and/or negotiate with external parties, including regulators, public authorities, brokers, insurance carriers and sureties to create relations of trust.
Advise on contract status, legal risks, and legal liabilities associated with day-to-day business transactions.
Specify internal governance policies and regularly monitor compliance.
Prepare, review, and negotiate company contracts, requests for proposals and bids, public bid package reviews and other legal documents.
Draft, negotiate, and solidify agreements, real estate leases, contracts, and other legal documents to ensure the organization’s full legal rights.
Review advertising and marketing materials to ensure they are legally compliant.
Proactively oversee risk management processes.
Juris Doctorate Degree
License to practice law from Louisiana State Bar Association
10 or more years of legal practice
Exceptional leadership and people management skills, communication and influencing skills, and change management skills.
Experience with legal and risk management within the construction industry.
