Join our team. #CloroxIsThePlace Your role at Clorox: Reporting to a Director of Legal, this role is responsible for managing complex, high-value civil litigation matters, including product liability, personal injury, class actions, intellectual property, commercial and employment disputes. This includes formulating and actively driving strategies for the resolution of litigation, and managing outside counsel to achieve cost-effective results. This role will also provide Labor and Employment advice and counseling and claim support for the HR team. Additional legal tasks covered by this role include responsibility for subpoena responses, internal investigations and business counseling.

Requirements

  • JD degree (judicial clerkship or externship a plus).
  • Member of the California State Bar, or eligible to register as a California Registered In-House Counsel.
  • At least 4 years of experience as a practicing attorney (in-house experience a plus).
  • Extensive experience handling complex civil litigation, including commercial, class action, and product liability, and employment litigation through all phases (pre-trial, trial, appellate, settlement).
  • Experience taking and defending depositions.
  • Demonstrated success at providing strategic counseling to business partners that takes into account legal considerations along with business goals.
  • Must be a self-starter with a sense of urgency, ability to multi-task, ability to handle unanticipated situations effectively and work well under pressure with tight deadlines to ensure timely and appropriate response to issues raised.
  • Broad range of relevant legal experience, including the ability to identify, prioritize and resolve critical legal issues in real time and to manage cases and legal claims from inception to resolution.
  • Unquestioned personal integrity; seen as a role model for ethical principles and values of the Company and practices required by law.
  • Excellent judgment and ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong skills in leadership with the ability to drive and lead while working with legal and technical staff.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Some travel may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a wide variety of litigation matters, including product liability, personal injury, class actions, intellectual property, commercial and employment disputes, as well administrative charges and/or complaints filed with the DOL, EEOC and various state and local civil rights agencies.
  • Handle counsel selection, supervise outside counsel, coordinate litigation strategy, and manage outside counsel costs.
  • Responsible for preparation of discovery, review of pleadings, and formulation of case strategy.
  • Provide direction and oversight on electronic discovery collection, holds, and compliance.
  • Manage and advise on business disputes, and provide legal counsel on pre-litigation, contract issues and employment/HR risks.
  • Oversee investigations and responses to subpoenas and other legal requests.
  • Responsible for preparing witnesses for deposition and occasionally defending depositions.
  • Provide counsel and develop and conduct legal training for business partners on topics such as compliance with law and internal policies, privilege, document creation and retention, and other areas as requested.
  • Assist in other substantive legal areas and work with members of Legal leadership, other attorneys and staff on departmental matters as needed.
