About The Position

Microsoft seeks a Corporate Counsel to join its Workforce, Employment, and Benefits Solutions (WEBS) team. This role provides practical, business-focused legal counsel on U.S. employment issues supporting Microsoft’s Human Resources Organization and business clients. This position is well suited for an attorney who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys partnering closely with HR professionals, and is eager to deepen your Employment Law subject matter expertise, and help modernize and scale legal operations that support HR and business partners across the company. As Corporate Counsel, Employment Law you will: Provide timely, practical advice on a broad range of U.S. employment law issues, including performance management, investigations, accommodations, workplace policies, and separations. Support the development and modernization of scalable employment law tools, guidance, and workflows that strengthen consistency and operational excellence. Partner closely with HR, Legal, and business stakeholders to embed employment law considerations into workforce strategies and operational decision making. Requirements

  • Juris Doctor Degree or international equivalent degree AND 1+ year(s) experience as a practicing attorney
  • Active license to practice law in a jurisdiction and capable of meeting admission requirements in relevant jurisdiction.

Nice To Haves

  • Law firm, government, or in house legal counsel experience.
  • 4+ years experience managing complex employment matters.

Responsibilities

  • Provide U.S. employment law guidance to HR partners on issues including discrimination, retaliation, wrongful termination, wage and hour, accommodations and leaves (ADA/FMLA), and employment contract matters.
  • Deliver practical, timely, business focused legal advice that balances legal risk with operational realities.
  • Assist with responses to agency charges, demand letters, and prelitigation of matters, coordinating with outside counsel as needed.
  • Review and advise on HR policies, processes, guidelines, and templates to ensure clarity, consistency, and compliance.
  • Monitor changes in employment laws and support proactive compliance planning.
  • Contribute to the development, refinement, and modernization of guidance, templates, playbooks, and self-service resources to scale employment law support across the company.
  • Use Microsoft technologies and detain formed approaches to improve the client experience and legal service delivery.
  • Support development of training materials and resources that translate legal concepts into accessible guidance for HR professionals and managers.
  • Provide legal support for internal investigations in partnership with HR and investigation teams.
  • Assist with responding to agency charges, demand letters, and other prelitigation matters, including managing outside counsel on discrete components of a matter.
  • Partner with HR, business leaders, and colleagues across CELA to deliver consistent, high-quality legal support.
  • Contribute to team knowledge sharing efforts.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively in both written and verbal formats, translating legal requirements into actionable guidance for clients.
