Learn more about BNSF and our Benefits Work Location: Fort Worth Other Potential Locations: Fort Worth, TX Anticipated Start Date: 06/01/2026 Number of Positions: 1 Monthly Salary: $4,375 A Summer Intern in the Audit Department offers aspiring audit professionals a dynamic, engaging, and insightful experience. This program provides interns with a comprehensive understanding of the railroad industry's audit processes, governance, risk management, and internal control frameworks. Over the summer, interns will have the unique opportunity to work alongside our experienced audit team, participate in real-world audit projects, and contribute to the department's objectives. This hands-on experience is supplemented with professional development workshops, networking opportunities, and mentorship, setting the foundation for a successful career in audit. Our goal is to enhance the interns' technical skills and knowledge and instill a deep appreciation for the critical role audit plays in the safety, efficiency, and success of one of the largest railroads. Successful interns may be hired as full-time Management Trainees upon graduation. Learn more about our Summer Intern Program This is a full-time position located in Fort Worth, TX. For certain positions, including this one, employees can work one day per week remotely. Our leaders also foster a culture where work life balance, which requires flexibility for when life happens, is important and respected. Travel is minimal, must have reliable transportation to and from work. Relocation is required if located more than 50 miles from the location. Training will start with a two-day orientation in Fort Worth, Texas, offering a company overview and networking with leaders. This will be followed by support on ongoing projects and practical training with the department. Requirements

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States and will be at least eighteen (18) years old upon hire.
  • Does not require BNSF’s assistance, now or in the future, (whether monetary, through sponsorship, or otherwise) to obtain, maintain, or extend employment authorization (including H-1B, STEM OPT/CPT, or TN nonimmigrant status).
  • Pursuing a Bachelors or Graduate degree in Accounting from an accredited university.
  • Have and will maintain at least a 2.75 cumulative GPA.
  • Have LESS THAN three (3) years of professional work experience, EXCLUDING internships, part-time jobs, or positions held while pursuing my undergraduate and/or graduate degree.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior intern experience or less than 3 years of work experience in Accounting.
  • Have or have held a leadership position in a campus, community, or extracurricular organization.

Responsibilities

  • Gather and analyze complex information, including SOX testing, control environment testing, and special projects.
  • Examine evidence obtained during audits regarding compliance with policies, procedures adequacy, and control effectiveness.
  • Assist in testing based on audit objectives.
  • Document evidence of testing in audit work papers.
  • Develop and maintain effective communication and rapport with team and customers.
  • Possess leadership, teamwork, clear communication, adaptability, and resilience to overcome obstacles and meet deadlines in a dynamic work environment.
