About The Position

ECU Health Medical Center, one of four academic medical centers in North Carolina, is the 974-bed flagship hospital for ECU Health and serves as the primary teaching hospital for The Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. ECU Health Medical Center has achieved Magnet designation twice and provides acute and intermediate care, rehabilitation and outpatient health services to a 29-county region that is home to more than 1.4 million people. The position involves maintaining a comprehensive financial reporting system for ECU Health entities and producing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for distribution to management, executive staff, committees, and boards. Responsibilities include fixed asset accounting, approving invoices, maintaining contract files, reconciling general ledger accounts, and compiling information for governmental and benchmarking surveys, annual audit, and tax preparation packages.

Requirements

  • Four year college degree or higher in Accounting, Business or Finance
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products, such as Excel and Word
  • 1 year of experience working in an accounting office as a staff accountant in business or similar industry

Responsibilities

  • Controls general ledger for ECU Health entities
  • Process accounts payable approvals in conjunction with policies and procedures established by company for capital and contract invoices
  • Reconcile accounts receivable for multiple patient accounting systems
  • Prepare monthly journal entries in the general ledger including accruals and reversals of expenses and allocation of prepaid and inventory accounts
  • Prepare quarterly and annual reports to state and federal taxing agencies
  • Prepare surveys used by government agencies and benchmarking companies
  • Performs analysis and compiles data for annual audit and tax preparation packages
  • Update the Peoplesoft Fixed Asset System for ECU Health entities on a monthly basis
  • Evaluate leased asset transactions to determine the proper recording as an asset or operating expense
  • Prepare individual, divisional, and consolidated financial statements for ECU Health entity assets, liabilities, and fund balances
  • Verify elimination entries for all inter-company transactions on a monthly basis
  • Process other accounts receivable using accounting software
  • Submit bond requisitions to the trustee for reimbursement
  • Approve invoices in conjunction with corporate policies and procedures
  • Maintain ECU Health Medical Center and subsidiary companies contract files
  • Perform monthly reconciliation of asset, liability, capital, revenue and expense accounts
  • Perform other duties as assigned
