About The Position

This position is responsible for the management of field activities, crop agronomics and seed quality control of the seed production at the growing location. This position is authorized to perform the steps necessary to ensure the responsibilities are met. Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Agronomics or related agricultural field
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and insurable driving record as determined by Beck’s automobile insurance policy.
  • Strong knowledge of agronomy and seed corn production.
  • Basic computer and current software skills, Microsoft office, GPS/GIS software,
  • CDL or equivalent preferred.
  • Farm systems knowledge preferred drainage systems, equipment operation, applicator operations, planting operations, and harvesting operations.
  • May be required to lift up to 70 pounds unassisted.
  • Ability to pass respiratory medical clearance evaluation required.
  • Ability to pass DOT physical examination and obtain Medical Examiner’s Certificate may be required.
  • Overnight travel may be required based on project needs at Beck’s regional locations and may vary in duration of time.
  • Three (3) years’ experience in the agronomics or seed production industry.

Responsibilities

  • Agronomics Assist with placement of hybrids
  • Create solutions for issues discovered in collaboration with Production Location Manager and seed growers.
  • Coordinate with Production Location Manager and seed growers on operational strategy, chemistry, fertility programs, crop rotation, and soil management.
  • Scouting corn, soybean, and wheat production acres for weeds, insects, and disease.
  • Quality Control Implement the plan for seed quality measures as assigned by Production Agronomy Manager including: field isolation planning, pollination notes, purity issues, and planting timeliness.
  • Manage field operations on grower fields including planting, roguing, detasseling, chemical applications, male corn removal, and harvest.
  • Lead and develop a team of agronomy scouts.
  • Recruit, hire, and manage the retention of seed growers, and custom farms
  • Assist with soybean grower, sampling, and receiving activities as needed.
  • May be required to operate farm equipment.
  • Perform other related duties as may be required by the Production Location Manager.
