The Tax Intern position at BDO is designed for energetic self-starters who are pursuing a career in tax services. This role involves assisting in the preparation of tax returns and extensions under the guidance of experienced professionals, providing a hands-on experience in the firm's practices and fostering essential relationships for career success.

  • Ensure clients comply with all applicable authorities while minimizing tax and reporting burdens.
  • Utilize referencing systems and workpapers that tie to the return.
  • Complete tasks and organize files to minimize rework by reviewers.
  • Collect data to comply with filing requirements.
  • Take initiative on impending due dates and engagement letters.
  • Work with tax software applications to complete simple tax returns for review.
  • Perform quarterly estimates and prepare extensions.
  • Assist with responses to notices from the Internal Revenue Service.
  • Assist in the projection of year-end filings and tax accruals.
  • Correctly apply Firm policies and the BDO Tax Quality Manual regarding tax provisions.
  • Assist with developing and implementing methods to maximize client benefits.
  • Operate online research tools to gather pertinent tax information.
  • Monitor tax law and client developments regularly and communicate impacts to the client service team.
  • Enrolled in a Bachelors or Masters program in Accounting or a relevant field.
  • Pursuing a master's degree in Accounting or a relevant field preferred.
  • Leadership experience preferred.
  • Actively pursuing school credits to become a CPA.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions.
