The Core Tax Services Intern will be responsible for utilizing his or her educational background as well as organizational skills in the service of the firm's client base through the preparation of returns and extensions under the supervision of more experienced Core Tax Services professionals. This opportunity will allow you to gain a unique hands-on perspective on our firm's practices and people, as well as beginning to forge the critical relationships that will help maximize your chance for success in your career. As a Core Tax Intern, you will engage in various tax compliance activities, ensuring that clients comply with all applicable authorities while minimizing their tax and reporting burdens. You will effectively use referencing systems and workpapers that tie to the return, complete tasks, and organize files to minimize rework by reviewers. Additionally, you will ensure that data is collected to comply with filing requirements and take initiative on impending due dates and engagement letters. You will work with tax software applications to complete simple tax returns for review, perform quarterly estimates, prepare extensions, and assist with responses to notices from the Internal Revenue Service. In the area of ASC 740-10 (FAS 109 and FIN 48) Tax Accruals, you will correctly and proactively apply Firm policies, standards, and the BDO Tax Quality Manual (TQM) regarding FAS 109 and FIN 48, assisting with components of income tax provisions. Furthermore, you will assist in tax consulting by developing, recommending, and implementing efficient and effective methods to maximize client benefits, especially by decreasing clients' current and future taxes. You will operate online research tools to gather pertinent tax information and monitor tax law and client factual developments regularly. This role will also involve developing and communicating viewpoints regarding how those developments might affect clients to the client service team personnel.
