About The Position

Responsible for effective operational management, supervision, and direction of all three shifts of the Specimen Management and Referral Testing departments at the Core Laboratory to meet customer and business objectives.

Requirements

  • 8,000 keystrokes/hour with less than five errors; medium/high attention‑to‑detail score.
  • 3–5 years progressive medical lab experience, including automation.
  • Proven leadership in coaching/mentoring, budgeting, inspection readiness, policy/procedure development, safety, enforcement, and conflict resolution.
  • Strong client service and customer satisfaction skills.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Visual acuity and hand–finger dexterity for computer work and specimen testing.
  • Sit or stand for long periods; perform accurate data entry in noisy environments.
  • Read small labels and use the telephone for client communication.
  • Understand instructions and maintain focused attention.
  • Demonstrate integrity, accuracy, sound reasoning, and independent judgment.
  • Meet deadlines, communicate effectively, and work well with others.
  • Prioritize tasks, manage multiple procedures, and perform under pressure.
  • Work with exposure to biohazards and hazardous chemicals.
  • Follow all safety, ergonomic, health, and PPE requirements.
  • Complete required safety training and health evaluations on time.
  • Identify and address safety hazards and promote safety awareness.

Responsibilities

  • Select, evaluate, and develop staff.
  • Provide direct supervision/mentoring to all processing staff and temporary employees in concert with the company vision and mission to meet business objectives and customer expectations.
  • Prepares fair and unbiased corrective action for staff when necessary.
  • Create and distribute department schedules that meet the needs of the customer.
  • Prepare and submit department payroll information on a bi-weekly basis in a timely manner.
  • Prepare monthly report to include quality, productivity, projects and financials.
  • Submit budget variance reports for budget/actual differences of greater than defined limits.
  • Measure and document employee performance on an ongoing basis.
  • Demonstrate competency in all departmental functions and duties.
  • Update and maintain department procedure manuals making sure to follow all document control processes.
  • Evaluate, monitor and continually improve productivity, usage of supplies and equipment and deployment of FTE's.
  • Ensure that all applicable company checklists are completed within established timeframes. Including but not limited to timecards, probationary reviews, training checklists, root cause analysis and company-wide training in Learning Management System.
  • Keep employees and clients updated on technical and administrative changes as appropriate. Example - repatriated test(s) and changes in specimen requirements
  • Actively work with other managers to resolve problems with both internal and external customers.
  • Handle patient and/or client issues in a customer friendly and timely manner.
  • Inform supervisor as needed; document using the QA process and forward to the Quality manager or Risk Manager with needed.
  • Ensure staff and departmental compliance with all regulatory and company policies and procedures. Always maintain CAP readiness.
  • Preform Quality Assurance and Continuous Improvement activities within the department.
  • Contribute to the overall effectiveness of the organization by promoting, encouraging and applying the Six Sigma approach to continuous improvement.
  • Utilize computer systems for record keeping, reporting, documenting and monitoring root cause analysis and process improvement.
  • Promote continuous process improvement and CompuNet’ s values in core business processes.
  • Provide clear, consistent communication to staff through regularly scheduled department meetings, department scorecard, memos, CE offerings, follow-up from management meetings and personal communication.
  • Actively participates in safety program for the department in accordance with the policies set forth by the Safety Manager.
  • Fosters and promotes a culture of safety within the department.
  • Make safety a priority.
  • Comply with all company and department safety and health policies.
  • Assist Marketing with clients in an educational and customer service capacity.
  • Contribute to the overall effectiveness of CompuNet by performing other operational, administrative or educational duties as needed.
