About The Position

Clinical Care & Teaching - Delivers direct comprehensive outpatient family medicine care, including preventive, acute, and chronic disease management. - Supervises and precepts residents in the clinic, modeling high-quality care for patients with social determinants of health (SDOH). - Supervises outpatient procedures (e.g., long-acting reversible contraceptives, endometrial biopsy, skin/nail procedures, joint injections), and manages specific conditions (addiction, lifestyle medicine) as appropriate to the ACGME and the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM) requirements. - Provides patient education and promotes health literacy. - Maintains concise, legible documentation in the Electronic Health Record (EHR). Residency Education & Curriculum - Develops, revises, and oversees assigned curricular areas; reviews curriculum annually. - Prepares and delivers didactic lectures, leads group discussions (e.g., monthly/bi-monthly lectures, Grand Rounds, orientation) and plans Continuing Medical Education (CME). - Serves as faculty advisor for assigned residents, meeting regularly and supporting individualized learning plans. - Provides real-time feedback for residents and conducts competency-based evaluations, including biannual Milestones assessments as required by ACGME. - Mentors residents on career and educational goals. - Ensures compliance with ACGME, ABFM, American Academy of Family Practice (AAFP), and FQHC requirements. Program & Organizational Engagement - Attends faculty meetings, development sessions, program meetings, and retreats. - Collaborates with partner institutions and faculty to integrate curriculum across clinical, didactic, and elective experiences. - Participates in outreach events and community engagement as needed. - Integrates new ideas, skills, and areas of expertise (e.g., quality improvement, lifestyle medicine, and others). - Supports the program director in developing and implementing evaluation systems. Professional Leadership - Demonstrates punctuality, timely communication, and commitment to shared faculty responsibilities. - Upholds organizational values, delivers medical care to the underserved community, forms part of the community, and participates in faculty development & organizational initiatives. - Maintains patient confidentiality and adheres to ethical standards. - Models high standards of medical care and evidence-based practice for patients and peers, while building leadership skills to mentor residents during their training. Faculty Commitment - Dedicates at least 40% of the time (minimum 16 hours/week or 800 hours/year) to the residency program needs (precepting, cosigning, faculty development, fulfilling residency needs and administrative time), exclusive of patient care without residents, as required by ACGME. - Participates in ongoing professional development and scholarly activities as required by ACGME. - Monitors resident work hours and fatigue. - Attends meetings and serves on program/staff committees. - Supports the mission of Sunset Health and the Family Medicine Residency Program for continuous ACGME accreditation and to graduate Board-Certified Family Medicine Physicians. - Becomes a member of Society of Teachers of Family Medicine (STFM) and AAFP.
