About The Position

As South Florida's only NCI-Designated Cancer Center, the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center is a pioneer in groundbreaking cancer research and care. It is home to a dedicated team of more than 3,160 physicians, researchers and staff working together to discover, develop and deliver world-class care. Research Programs are supported by seven highly specialized Shared Resources, each providing access to technologies and expertise in a specific focus area. Among them, the Onco-Genomics Shared Resource (OGSR) provides access to state-of-the-art research services for studying the genomics, epigenomics, transcriptomics, and metagenomics of cancer. We are seeking an individual with laboratory experience in molecular biology to join our busy team in the OGSR as a Core Facility Research Specialist 3. Laboratory tasks and responsibilities will align with your prior experience and can include overseeing and running NGS library prep and sequencing, single-cell sample QC, capture and stabilization, loading and monitoring spatial biology platforms, or nucleic acid extraction and quality assessment. Essential administrative tasks encompass the tracking and processing of project requests, the interpretation and reporting of assay performance and data handover. This position interfaces with Cancer Center investigators and their laboratory members, and with staff of the other Sylvester Shared Resources. The OGSR is well resourced and offers excellent opportunities to gain experience working with technologies at the forefront of genomics. Key instrumentation includes: an Illumina NovaSeq X Plus, Bruker Spatial Biology GeoMx and CosMx systems, 10x Genomics Chromium X and Visium CytAssist platforms, Mission Bio Tapestri, Revvity Zephyr and Hamilton Vantage liquid handlers, a Thermo KingFisher Apex and Qiagen digital PCR. Hands-on experience in specific NGS modalities (e.g. single-cell or metagenomics) or with any of the instrumentation listed above will be an advantage. The Core Facility Research Specialist 3 (A) executes complex research protocols in the performance of research activities within revenue generating Shared Resource (SR) core facilities. The incumbent functions as a liaison between the SR Director, the Research Lab Supervisor and Research staff for laboratory and equipment maintenance, compliance, ordering, and maintaining inventory records. The incumbent displays proficiency in all revenue-producing applications included in the menu of services at a given time of the Shared Resource and trains other staff and users in SR applications. The Core Facility Research Specialist 3 (A) research, beta tests and independently develops new services, platforms or equipment that the core is evaluating as candidates for implementation and incorporation in the SR’s menu of services.
