About The Position

The University of Iowa Central Microscopy Research Facility (CMRF) is an Office of the Vice President for Research core resource, offering a wide array of instrumentation to research investigators. We are currently in search of a candidate for a Core Facility Research Professional to perform laboratory maintenance, reagent preparation and reagent inventory. In this role, you will prepare biological research samples for microscopic analysis using established laboratory techniques. Your responsibilities will include fixation, dehydration, embedding, sectioning, and staining of specimens to ensure high-quality sample preparation. Due to the variety of equipment within the facility, the candidate will be encouraged to broaden their skill set. Work Modality: In-Person, located in Eckstein Medical Research Building (EMRB). Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in Biology or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Typically, 1-year general biological related laboratory support experience.
  • Proficiency in histology specimen preparation and sectioning techniques.
  • Experience performing fixation of biological samples for microscopy applications.
  • Knowledge of histotechnology principles and/or certification.
  • Experience operating light microscopy systems.
  • Skilled in biological sample preparation and related methodologies.
  • Ability to perform tasks that require accuracy, attention to detail, including accurate record keeping.
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and relationship management skills, and ability to interact positively with a variety of individuals from all backgrounds.
  • Demonstrate working proficiency with Microsoft Office software, (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with digital imaging software (FIJI, Bitplane Imaris or similar packages).
  • Experienced in immunogold-labeled sample preparation for microscopy applications.
  • Proficient in computer networking, data transfer, and data management practices.
  • Knowledge of University of Iowa policies, procedures and regulations.
