About The Position

The Core Department Lead provides area leadership and direct supervision while serving as the lead worker to the Core Department crew members on a particular shift providing day-to-day management. In addition, the Lead may perform all Core Side tasks (e.g., fin and tube prep, soldering, testing, head manufacturing, etc.) as necessary. The Lead receives direction from the Core Department Supervisor, Manufacturing Supervisor, and the Director of Operations. The Core Department Lead will develop training procedures, cross training initiatives, process improvement work plans by combining company strategies with specific assignments and resolves most problems independently. The Core Department Lead will act as the primary backup to the Second Shift Manufacturing Supervisor and assume responsibilities as needed in their absence. Requirements

  • Ability to communicate and work with others and lead immediate subordinates.
  • Responsible for training of operators for products and processes within the department.
  • Ability to organize and direct work activities in a fast-paced, shop environment.
  • Work independently, reviewed infrequently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage a wide variety of activities at the same time.
  • Working knowledge of the specific practices and methods in radiator assembly.
  • Ability to read and understand job routings, shop drawings, and blueprints.
  • Knowledge of properties of the metals and related materials used in radiators.
  • Skill in using and maintaining radiator core production tools and equipment.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and the ability to follow safe work practices.
  • Good understanding of customer deliverables and the impact of failure/cost of poor quality.
  • Ability to lead by example, gain respect from team and communicate with clarity while demonstrating excellence in approach to work and people activities.
  • Strong PC skills and experience of Microsoft Office Suite and ERP systems.
  • Understanding of production costs to include waste, downtime, scrap, and re-work.
  • Three or more years of manufacturing experience, required as a lead/supervisor.
  • Related technical training (high school or beyond) is desirable but not essential.
  • Experience will be considered in lieu of college or associate’s degree.
  • Forklift operator certification and driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Assign work to all core department employees and plan workflow according to production capabilities and schedule.
  • Reviews job orders (written or verbal) and establishes/interprets manufacturing specifications.
  • Lead department daily safety stretching and daily kick off meetings.
  • Provides area leadership outside of core department in the absence of Manufacturing Supervisor.
  • Closes and secures facility at the end of each shift in the absence of Manufacturing Supervisor.
  • Ensure that production team is aware of day-to-day production output expectations.
  • Manage work order closures and inventory control transactions.
  • Upholds work rules, counsels employees, and initiates disciplinary measures where appropriate.
  • Conducts work-in-progress and spot-checks completed work to ensure that standards are met.
  • Advises company management on technical core manufacturing issues and recommends changes.
  • Troubleshoots all Core Side equipment and machinery problems and coordinates repairs with the Core Department Supervisor and Maintenance.
  • Ensures that equipment is in working order.
  • Responsible for the training of operators and assemblers for products and processes within the department
  • Ensures that work areas, equipment and other tools of the trade are clean and properly maintained.
  • Works in a safe manner at all times, ensures that safety rules are followed without exception and participates fully in any and all Company safety programs.
  • Ensures that all work is done in accordance with and adheres to IEA’s ISO and Quality standards.
  • Ensures that the necessary equipment, tools, PPE, and supplies are available and in working order to complete assignments.
  • Keeps team members informed about rules, regulations, policies, and objectives.
  • Collaborates with the team to identify ways to improve department effectiveness; implements viable ideas.
  • Interface with the planning department to determine schedules for shift production and material and labor constraints.
  • Resolves conflicts that arise among team members and/or other employees.
  • Monitors and enters scrap material accumulation into the ERP system.
  • Ensures that the tools in the department are properly calibrated.
  • Ensures full adherence to 6S practices at all times.
  • Support, comply and ensure complicity with Health & Safety regulations, the Company Handbook, Quality and Environmental standards, and all other Company policies and procedures.
  • Identify and report non-conforming material to quality department on a daily basis, using proper company forms such as but not limited, MRR’s, scrap log forms, and ECR’s.
  • Liaise and communicate with other departments and ensure an effective interface is maintained.
  • Undertake continuous training and development.
  • Performs root cause analysis and resolve problems.
  • Monitor time and attendance and ensure compliance with Company attendance procedures.
  • Carry out incident and accident reporting in a timely matter.
  • Consistently promote high standards through personal example and roll out through the team so that each member of the team understands the standards and behaviors expected of them.
  • Communicate Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) from the strategic quarterly and annual plan so that each employee is aware of expectations and deliverables.
