About The Position

Van Andel Institute (VAI), a world-class biomedical research institute located in Grand Rapids, Michigan, is dedicated to improving human health. We are pioneers in the fight against cancer, Parkinson's, and other diseases. We are committed to inspiring the next generation of scientists and educators. The Institute’s Pathology and Biorepository Core (PBC) serves as a coordinating facility for the prospective collection of biological specimens in West Michigan and as a clearinghouse for the processing, storage, and isolation of analytes to fuel biomedical discovery at VAI and partnering institutions. The PBC also conducts scientific evidence-based practices to advance the field of biospecimen science. To ensure the PBC is able to support both our internal and external collaborators, we are looking to add a Core Assistant to the team. This Core Assistant will assist PBC staff in a multitude of laboratory functions including biospecimen cataloging, organization, storage and disposition, data entry, document filing, scanning and disposal, and other laboratory tasks such as vial labeling and preparation. This position will focus mainly on biorepository organization with some laboratory operation support.

Requirements

• A current college student or enrolled in the first semester of college this coming Fall
• A self-driven and conscious individual who believes in providing excellent service
• A highly organized and detail-oriented person
• A team player with the ability to interact effectively and communicate well with co-workers

Responsibilities

• Assist PBC staff in a multitude of laboratory functions
• Biospecimen cataloging
• Organization, storage and disposition of biospecimens
• Data entry
• Document filing, scanning and disposal
• Vial labeling and preparation
• Focus mainly on biorepository organization with some laboratory operation support
