About The Position

Troveo is building the next-generation data platform to train AI video models. We offer the world’s largest library of AI video training data, offering millions of hours of licensed, training-ready content. Our end-to-end data pipeline connects creators, rights holders, and AI research labs, enabling scalable, compliant, and innovative uses of video for AI applications and model development. We are an early-stage, high-growth venture backed by forward-thinking investors, and we’re seeking a Commercial & Copyright Counsel to lead the company’s growing contract and licensing activity. The Commercial & Copyright Counsel will be responsible for reviewing, drafting, and negotiating a wide range of commercial agreements, with particular emphasis on content and data licensing. This role requires sound judgment, strong drafting skills, and the ability to provide clear, actionable legal advice in a fast-moving startup environment. The successful candidate will be passionate about AI and able to operate independently while working closely with the leadership team to develop and implement a legal strategy.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor or equivalent degree from a top-tier law school.
• Membership in good standing with at least one United States state bar.
• At least seven years of legal experience, with the majority of that at a law firm.
• Substantial experience drafting and negotiating commercial contracts.
• Expertise in copyright law, particularly as it applies to licensing.
• Strong legal writing skills and the ability to communicate complex legal concepts clearly and practically.
• Ability to manage multiple matters simultaneously and work with minimal supervision.

Nice To Haves

• Experience advising clients in the technology, media, entertainment, or content licensing sectors.
• Exposure to data licensing, artificial intelligence, or digital rights management issues.
• Comfort working in an evolving regulatory and commercial environment.

Responsibilities

• Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements, including content licensing agreements, data and artificial intelligence training agreements, master services agreements, statements of work, non-disclosure agreements, amendments, and renewals.
• Implement and oversee systems to manage and analyze the growing volume of contracts while maintaining consistency, clarity, and appropriate risk allocation.
• Provide day-to-day legal support across the business, including review of vendor and partnership agreements and guidance on legal issues arising from product and operational decisions.
• Develop and maintain contract templates, internal guidance, and lightweight legal processes designed to scale with the company.
• Collaborate with and oversee outside counsel, including managing timelines, scope, and budgets.
