About The Position

At our ministry, we are passionate about forming lasting faith in every child, everywhere!  As the Copyeditor, you will play an important role in furthering our mission by ensuring all written content produced for ChildDiscipleship.com and related platforms is clear, accurate, engaging, and aligned with our theological convictions and brand standards. This role serves as a primary steward of editorial quality and voice across web properties, email communications, social platforms, and long-form resources. The Copyeditor will manage and uphold the organization’s brand style guide and contribute original copy as needed. Please provide a resume and cover letter that outlines your editorial experience and ministry alignment; and also provide 2-3 relevant writing/editing samples to your application as an attachment or URL 

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Theology, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Minimum of 4 years of professional copyediting or editorial experience in digital media, publishing, in a Christrian ministry setting strongly preferred.  
  • Exceptional command of English grammar, usage, and editorial standards.
  • Experience working with content management systems and collaborative editing tools.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and demonstrate flexibility to adapt to evolving content needs and platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle theological and ministry content with accuracy and discernment.
  • Proven ability to write clear, compelling copy for diverse audiences.
  • Commitment to the mission, values, and Awana Doctrinal Statement .
  • Valid State driver’s license required.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States is required; this position is not eligible for employment visa sponsorship.
  • Must be a born-again Christian.
  • Must have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
  • Must be in agreement with the Awana Doctrinal Statement.
  • Must be in fellowship with the body of Christ through a local church.
  • Regularly engages in reading the Holy Bible as a guide and standard for living.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in Christian publishing, ministry communications, or theological education.
  • Background editing content for churches, parents, or ministry leaders.
  • Familiarity with discipleship frameworks, faith formation research, and cultural engagement.
  • General understanding of the Bible and the Christian Church in its various expressions preferred.
  • Experience with Awana Club, curriculum, resources, & solutions is a plus!

Responsibilities

  • Edit and proofread web content, including articles, blogs, resource pages, devotionals, and training materials.
  • Review and refine long-form resources such as books, guides, curricula, and reports for publication readiness.
  • Ensure grammatical accuracy, stylistic consistency, clarity, and theological fidelity across all materials.
  • Verify Scripture references, citations, and ministry terminology.
  • Apply and maintain the organization’s editorial and brand style guide.
  • Write and revise copy for web pages, email campaigns, landing pages, and social media.
  • Craft headlines, summaries, calls-to-action, and supporting text that strengthen engagement and accessibility.
  • Support editorial initiatives and campaigns through original content development.
  • Support editorial vision, content strategy, and publication priorities.
  • Collaborate closely with the Communications, Creative, and Technology teams (as needed), as well as stakeholders across the ministry, to ensure unified messaging, technical accuracy, and brand alignment.
  • Partner with writers, designers, ministry leaders, and subject-matter experts to produce high-quality, mission-aligned content.
  • Track edits, manage version control, and uphold editorial calendars and production workflows.
  • Provide constructive editorial feedback that strengthens authors’ skills and reinforces organizational standards. 
  • Adhere to regular production schedules and editorial deadlines.
  • Provide occasional support for special projects, campaigns, or ministry initiatives.
  • Uphold and demonstrate the Awana cultural values in all internal and external communications and relationships.
  • Contribute to special projects, initiatives and evolving ministry needs.
