The Coordinator - SPED provides coordination and leadership in special education programming for a diverse student population. This role is responsible for leadership resulting in the implementation of the special education process, including identification, assessment, development, and implementation of IEPs. The coordinator collaborates with community-based agencies and ensures compliance with local, state, and federal statutes and regulations. Additionally, the coordinator develops and promotes good community relations among various community and school clientele.

  • Design and assist in delivery of staff development training for employees responsible for instructional delivery of children with special needs.
  • Assist the Director(s) of Special Education to gather necessary data with regard to state and federal reporting procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with all DCSD personnel to offer guidance and support in meeting the needs of all students with Individualized Plans.
  • Collaborate with building and district level teams, building and district administration in oversight and facilitation of individual student programs/plans, which may include Special Education, Section 504, Gifted and Talented, Literacy Intervention, English Language Development, etc., at multiple schools/district level.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
  • Demonstrate and utilize knowledge with regard to implementation of State and Federal laws related to students with Individualized Plans, which may include Individualized Education Plans (IEP), Section 504 Plans, Advanced Learning Plans (ALP), English Language Learner Plans (ELLP), etc.
  • Facilitate and assist human resources activities related to special education staff: hires/directs/mentors/evaluates/disciplines/terminates.
  • Develop and maintain effective communications among parents, faculty, stakeholders and administration regarding student needs, programming, and instruction, including mediation and due process procedures.
  • K-12 Special Education Teaching License - Colorado Department of Education
