About The Position

The SEL / Trauma-Informed Coordinator (K-6) leads the implementation of social-emotional learning (SEL) and trauma-informed practices in an elementary school setting. This role aligns initiatives with the CASEL SEL Framework, MTSS, and PBIS to support safe, predictable, and inclusive learning environments that promote student well-being, behavior regulation, and academic success.

Requirements

  • Bachelor s degree required; Master s degree preferred (education, counseling, social work, psychology, human services or related field).
  • Experience implementing SEL and/or trauma-informed practices in elementary or school-based settings.
  • Experience working with students who are classified and attending a day treatment setting is preferred.
  • Experience interacting with and managing groups of children.
  • Experience and skill in conducting professional development and coaching to staff.
  • Experience and proficiency with data collection, evaluation data-informed decision-making skills.
  • Knowledge of CASEL, MTSS, PBIS frameworks as well as restorative practices.
  • Ability to handle sensitive data with strict confidentiality.
  • Self-motivated and engaged, with a strong attention to detail; Excellent writing aptitude.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills; and exhibit empathy for those in need.
  • Demonstrated placidity and patience; flexibility and adaptability.
  • Knowledge of child development and trauma-responsive practices.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support K-6 implementation of SEL aligned to the CASEL competencies using a push-in, pull-out and consulting model.
  • Integrate trauma-informed practices into classroom instruction, school climate, and behavioral supports.
  • Collaborate with MTSS and PBIS teams to align Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 supports and interventions.
  • Provide professional development, coaching, and modeling for teachers and school staff.
  • Support the school in using data (behavior, attendance, school culture, SEL indicators) to inform decision-making.
  • Promote developmentally appropriate, relationship-centered, and restorative practices.
  • Communicates, consults (direct and indirect), and collaborates with staff (principal, director of clinical services, classroom staff, therapeutic support staff, and clinical staff: nurse practitioner, nurse, psychiatrist, social workers, and community partners) to support whole-child development, the implementation of SEL/trauma informed initiatives, activities, interventions and supports.
  • Coordinate and oversee the appropriate use of therapeutic animals (e.g. Nature Nook) as part of SEL, trauma-informed, and PBIS-aligned supports
  • Promote a positive, collaborative and caring school culture in an effort to enhance the overall student and family experience.
  • Provide daily care of animals in the Nature Nook , alerting the Principal to any concerns related to the health of the animals.
  • Develop protocols for therapeutic animal use that ensure student safety, consent, cultural responsiveness, and alignment with school policies.
  • Supports students in mastering skills and completing tasks that foster a sense of responsibility to their community
  • Completes appropriate documentation as directed by program procedure including incident reports, attendance, and intervention logs for therapeutic support spaces.
  • Assist with classroom coverage as needed during classroom staff absences
  • Additional position-related duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor/director.
