About The Position

The Secondary Extra-Curricular and Athletics, Eligibility and Academic Support Coordinator for Canton City Schools coordinates support for CCSD high school student athletes assisting with assessment, orientation, registration, and academic advising. The position works closely with coaches to identify student athletes needing support and to track their academic progress; and collaborates with Counselors and Principals to ensure that student athletes have the resources they need to be successful in their academics.

Requirements

  • Bachelor Degree required; Masters' Degree preferred
  • Such alternative to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education may find appropriate
  • Knowledge of Physical Education standards K-12
  • License and training in first aid

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate services to proactively address the academic needs of student athletes (ie: learning disabilities identification/testing, tutoring, study skills, time management, etc)
  • Collaborates with coaches and principals in identifying student athletes needing support and monitors their academic success
  • Maintain close communication with athletic directors, coaches, club and program advisors regarding academic progress of student athletes
  • Maintain regular communication with the Athletic Director and Principals regarding student's progress with the classroom and other non-academic issues and discuss appropriate interventions
  • Collects and analyzes data related to the retention, persistence, and completion rates of student athletes, club athletes, and program participants
  • Work with the Athletic Director's Office to monitor compliance with District Eligibility Policy
  • Assist Athletic Staff, School Administration, Parents with the NCAA Eligibility Center (Clearing House)
  • Tracks and provides assistance for students to obtain NCAA eligibility
  • Organizes, oversees and tracks successful Study Tables for student athletes throughout the school year and summer months, if necessary
  • Ensures eligibility for student athletes to enter the NCAA Eligibility Center (Clearing House)
  • Work with principals, teachers, coaches, students and parents to develop intervention plans for students when necessary
  • Keep all coaches and advisors informed of student progress
  • Supervise study tables and tutoring staff
  • Work with After School and Summer Programs to plan academic enrichment
  • Participates in community committees, workshops, meetings, and training sessions as needed
  • Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor or designee
