The Pediatric Emergency Care Coordinator (PECC) functions in a Magnet Recognized large tertiary academic Children’s Hospital with level one trauma designation. Demonstrates comprehensive specialized body of knowledge related to the specialty practice of pediatric emergency care and pediatric trauma care nursing and disaster preparedness. Serves as a clinical resource, mentor and educator for local Emergency Medical Services (EMS) agencies, local emergency departments, urgent care facilities on issues involving the care of the pediatric patients and pediatric trauma patients. Works with agencies and outlying Emergency departments to provide orientation, and ongoing training for all staff to help staff gain confidence in assessing and prioritizing care for all ages of pediatric patients in a fast-paced environment. Assists with policy, procedure, and standards of care development and review. Attends local, county and statewide meetings to contribute to the development and updating of pediatric injury and illness prevention initiatives. Reviews prehospital and emergency room data concern pediatric patients, analysis data and forwards concern to appropriate departments. Contributes to the preparation and maintenance of Level I Trauma Center designation for LLUCH. Maintains databases as required and enters all data accurately and timely. Takes responsibility for own professional growth by participating in educational programs, current literature review, in-service meetings and workshops, Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) activities. Will be required to travel to outlying agencies and facilities. Performs other duties as needed.
