About The Position

The Patient Access Authorization Lead directly impacts the revenue cycle by accurately processing data relating to insurance, authorization and demographic information following unit specific policies while maintaining current knowledge of payor insurance requirements. The Authorization Lead may initiate the processes and assesses surgical and diagnostic patient information to be systematically available hospital wide. The Authorization Lead meets established quality and productivity standards and interacts professionally with MD’s, MD office staff, employees, outside vendors, patients, and patient representatives. The Authorization Lead identifies workflow changes to assist in the reduction of authorization denials for the organization. This role works closely with the surgical HUB to make certain that specific procedure codes are appropriately aligned with the authorization being obtained by the payer. The Authorization Lead will assist in training and putting standard work in place with the authorization team to be certain we are paid for all procedures being performed.

Requirements

  • Two years of medical office or customer service experience.
  • Participation in orientation and patient access training program.
  • Updates and maintains knowledge and skills related to specific areas of expertise.
  • Word processing skills and PC experience.
  • Basic mathematical skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication and human relations skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Related experience in hospital registration.
  • Knowledge of Eclipsys or PHS/HPF.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
