About The Position

The Coordinator, Office of International Affairs works with the Director of the Office of International Affairs and other campus offices to support outbound study abroad programs for NPU students and incoming F and J international students and scholars.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • In accordance with federal regulations, applicants must be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident in order to serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) with the Student and Exchange Visitor Program, a division of the Department of Homeland Security.
  • Experience advising F-1 and/or J-1 students and scholars and/or willingness to undergo training in J-1 and F-1 visa advising, as needed.
  • Understanding of the needs and assets of individuals from many different countries.
  • Ability to work occasional night and weekend hours; ability to undertake occasional domestic or international travel.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong organizational, communication, and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and with a team of professionals.
  • Ability to handle details accurately and confidentially.
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Office suite; familiarity with data management systems (preferably Ellucian) and commitment to data integrity.
  • A personal commitment to and appreciation of the Christian mission of North Park University.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as SEVIS Designated School Official (DSO) for F-1 students and SEVIS Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) for J-1 international students and scholars.
  • Advise F-1 and J-1 students on employment (CPT, OPT, Academic Training), Social Security Numbers, visa renewal, and other relevant topics related to maintenance of visa status; advise incoming J-1 international exchange students on coursework, registration, and health insurance.
  • Coordinate academic and administrative support for international students in collaboration with other university departments including International Admissions, Residence Life, and Academic Engagement.
  • Assist the Director with international student orientation and SEVIS registration for all J-1 and F1 students each semester.
  • Plan, market, and coordinate intercultural programs, events, and workshops offered by OIA and in collaboration with campus partners, to promote a welcoming environment and culture of belonging for international students
  • Assist the Director with facilitation of NPU’s study abroad programs, including recruitment, application processes, course registration, transcript evaluation, pre-departure orientation, assessment and re-entry programming.
  • Advise students on study abroad programs, courses and scholarships, in individual and group meetings.
  • Update study abroad website and communication/marketing materials.
  • Participate in trainings and possible site visits.
  • Coordinator is expected to engage in ongoing training in F-1 and J-1 advising, as well as education abroad. Training and professional development opportunities will be provided.
  • Occasional conference attendance and site visit opportunities may be provided; specific opportunities will depend on office needs and budget.
