About The Position

The Coordinator of the Office of Disabilities (ODS) at Stevens Institute of Technology is responsible for planning and implementing services and projects aimed at ensuring the success of students with disabilities. This role involves compliance with federal and state regulations, direct interaction with students to provide accommodations and advocacy, and serving as a resource for faculty and staff. The Coordinator also represents ODS in various meetings and outreach efforts to promote the office's services.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, Rehabilitation Counseling, Education, or related area
  • Experience working with and coaching students with disabilities in secondary or higher education
  • Experience providing support services for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • Knowledge of assistive technology

Responsibilities

  • Assist students with disabilities with the ODS registration process; instruct students in correct procedures for completion and submission of forms and applications; explain requirements and restrictions; review submitted forms and applications for completeness
  • Conduct one-on-one meetings with students to develop learning and life strategies that promote student success, focusing on skills in time/stress management, goal setting, and study plans
  • Work closely with other university departments to provide resources and guidance to students to overcome barriers to success
  • Foster the development of critical and creative thinking skills, problem solving, and interpersonal skills to improve success in and outside of the classroom
  • Provide follow through and track the status of services provided through assessment and evaluation
  • Manage, distribute, and track technology and materials for note-taking services
  • Lead structured student groups, workshops, and presentations
  • Assist students with requests for alternative media for coursework
  • Recruit and supervise students providing note-taking services
  • Collect statistical data and develop reports as assigned
  • Provide oversight and administer exam proctoring system, including planning procedures and resolving issues
  • Collaborate with unit staff and campus partners to meet department goals
  • Create and conduct training to educate students, faculty, and staff about disability and accessibility topics
  • Participate in department projects and university committees
  • Participate in all other duties as assigned.
