About The Position

The coordinator collaborates with the local school site teams to provide support in their efforts to comply with the District’s court ordered Predominantly Hispanic, Black, Asian, and Other Non-Anglo (PHBAO) and voluntary integration program guidelines. The coordinator communicates performance standards and uses accountability measures to ensure that magnet programs are successfully implementing thematic instruction and adhering to magnet program guidelines.

Requirements

  • Permanent certificated employee of the Los Angeles Unified School District.
  • At least eight (8) years of successful, full-time public-school service in a certificated position(s), with no fewer than two (2) years of which must have been in a position(s) requiring the Administrative Services Credential.
  • At least five (5) years of successful, full-time public school teaching experience in grades K-12.
  • A valid California Administrative Services Credential.
  • An earned master’s degree or advanced degree of at least equivalent standard conferred by a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Completion of required Multicultural Education and Master Plan coursework.

Nice To Haves

  • At least three years of experience as an administrator of a school site.
  • Recent experience in a K–12 school-site setting, preferably with leadership or program coordination responsibilities with LAUSD’s Master Plan.
  • Knowledge of and experience with Magnet Program, Permits with Transportation Program, and other programs to alleviate the five harms of racial isolation.
  • Knowledge of District operational policies (e.g. opportunity transfers) and procedures, and negotiated agreements as they pertain to student integration programs.
  • Knowledge and understanding of secondary curriculum, instructional pathways, dual enrollment opportunities, and college and career readiness.
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships with a broad variety of constituent groups, including both internal and external partners.
  • Ability to facilitate professional development workshops.
  • Ability to travel to other sites and locations.
  • Collaboration and engagement with District parents of English Learners committees, councils, organizations, or advisory groups.
  • Skill in the use of technology (including use of various District-developed software/databases and multi-media content) to access data.
  • Excellent oral communication, problem solving, and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to work on a flexible schedule that will include evening and weekend meetings/activities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including data analysis and reporting functions.
  • Experience managing and creating content for professional social media platforms to support outreach and engagement.
  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish is highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates the development, implementation, and monitoring of the court-ordered Integration Program, including voluntary programs such as the Magnet Program, Permits with Transportation (PWT), and other initiatives aimed at mitigating the five harms of racial isolation, with a focus on serving Predominantly Hispanic, Black, Asian, and Other Non-Anglo (PHBAO) students and supporting class-size reduction efforts.
  • Guides school administrators in collaborating with teachers, magnet coordinators, and other staff to promote theme-based instruction across all content areas ensuring fidelity to appropriate strategies that provide access to core curriculum, enrichment, and intervention for all magnet students.
  • Collaboratively plans and organizes ongoing data-driven and focused professional development for program curriculum, policies, and procedures.
  • Provides leadership for and coordinates a variety of administrative/instructional programs designed for schools with PHBAO or Student Integration Services (SIS) voluntary programs.
  • Monitors school and student performance based on magnet identified metrics to support evaluation of the school progress to meet the magnet program goals.
  • Coordinates the planning, operational execution, and evaluation of voluntary integration programs by analyzing reports, conducting school site visits, and performing classroom and program observations to ensure fidelity.
  • Plans, organizes, and conducts meetings to promote community, school, central office, and region offices understanding of PHBAO and SIS voluntary programs.
  • Leads professional development that builds the capacity of school site magnet coordinators to ensure that schools meet the goals of the voluntary integration program.
  • Drafts and edits policy bulletins, memorandums, and reference guides.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Benefits

  • Salary range: $129,897 – $162,207 for 234 paid days.
  • Eligible for CalSTRS credit if already a member.
