About The Position

The Coordinator, Global Awareness Program supports JCCC by being responsible for the growth and administration of international education initiatives, with a dual focus on study abroad programming and the Global Awareness Program (GAP). This role manages the full lifecycle of study abroad—from partner relations and credit transfers to student advising and pre-departure orientations. Additionally, the Coordinator leads the recruitment, advising, and engagement efforts for GAP, ensuring students meet milestones for program completion. By collaborating with campus partners and executing high-impact events, this position drives campus internationalization and fosters a globally minded student body.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit students for the Global Awareness Program (GAP) and advise prospective participants on program requirements and opportunities.
  • Check student eligibility for participation through Via and guide students through enrollment and orientation.
  • Meet with GAP students at least once per semester to provide advising and support for program completion.
  • Monitor student progress, provide recommendations for completing requirements, and follow up with inactive students.
  • Recommend eligible students for graduation from the program and coordinate orientation and advising in collaboration with the Director of Global Engagement.
  • Plan and coordinate monthly GAP meetings, workshops, and related student engagement activities.
  • Maintain communication with students through Canvas, email updates, and in-person events.
  • Identify and maintain a list of approved international and intercultural activities for GAP participation.
  • Coordinate guest speakers and event logistics, including room reservations, catering, and event setup.
  • Plan and organize the annual GAP graduation and recognition ceremony and order completion medallions.
  • Develop and implement marketing and recruitment strategies for GAP in coordination with the Director.
  • Present information about GAP and international opportunities in classes, campus events, and informational sessions.
  • Collaborate with faculty to promote internationally focused courses and expand the approved internationalized course list.
  • Work with the Marketing department to develop promotional materials and increase awareness of GAP and global engagement opportunities.
  • Promote scholarships and international engagement opportunities to students.
  • Maintain accurate records of student participation, including reflections, course submissions, international experiences, and other program requirements.
  • Track student progress through GAP and communicate milestones and requirements.
  • Manage the Canvas course site and maintain the list of active GAP participants.
  • Track budgets for GAP activities and maintain documentation of communications and program updates.
  • Assist in coordinating international and intercultural events such as International Education Week, Explore the World, Global Connections, and study abroad fairs.
  • Participate in the International Events and Activities Sub-Committee and collaborate with campus partners to support global engagement initiatives.
  • Maintain inventory of office materials and recommend purchases as needed.
  • Promote other Global Engagement opportunities and refer students to related programs (e.g., Study Away, Honors).
  • Provide general office support, including greeting visitors and assisting with other duties as assigned.
