About The Position

The Coordinator for Elementary Special Education is responsible for coordinating the district program for students with disabilities. This role involves collaborating with district and campus staff, as well as outside personnel, to ensure the provision of appropriate educational opportunities for students with disabilities.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree from accredited university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate in Special Education
  • Ability to organize and coordinate district-wide program
  • Ability to interpret data and develop plans
  • Knowledge of strategies and materials for the education of students with disabilities
  • Strong knowledge of special education law, processes, and services
  • Strong knowledge of curriculum, instruction, and statewide assessment
  • Strong knowledge of technology
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Minimum 3 years experience as a special education/general education teacher or service provider
  • 3 years experience with Texas Assessment programs

Responsibilities

  • Implement procedures and coordinate the process to identify and serve students with disabilities at the secondary/elementary level, including review of student data and evaluation of students.
  • Develop and conduct or arrange for staff development sessions, including sessions on delivery of instruction, development of standards-based individual educational plans, enriched learning in classroom settings, and special education processes, and statewide assessment.
  • Maintain open and continued communication with campus principals for a united approach to curriculum methods, content, and access for students with disabilities.
  • Provide resources and support to campus administrators and staff regarding special education programs including state performance monitoring and IEP compliance.
  • Plan and coordinate the district assessment/testing program for special education.
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate assessment with teachers and principals to enhance the learning of all students.
  • Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Executive Director of Special Education.
  • Understand the special education budget and ensure that programs are cost-effective and special education funds are managed wisely.
  • Assist in compiling budget and cost estimates based on documented program needs.
  • Assist with the selection and purchase of supplemental equipment and supplies for the program.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
  • Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and the local board policy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
