The Center for Teaching and Learning at The University of Tampa is looking for a Coordinator of First-Year Community Engagement. This First-Year Studies (FYS) Instructional Staff position reports to the Senior Director of First-Year Studies. The FYS Program is designed to help students transition to college and make the best academic, co-curricular, and social choices while acquiring the skills needed to excel in their chosen area of interest. FYS achieves this goal through a required full year-long first-year-studies course designed to help students (a) build a connection with each other, faculty, and peer mentors; (b) connect with the on-campus community; and (c) connect with the surrounding Tampa community. All students entering UTampa take a first-year studies course as part of their Spartan Studies (general education) requirements. FYS helps students build connections with their faculty, fellow students, and the campus and local communities through out-of-classroom experiences that fulfill the Spartan Ready Competencies. Effective out-of-classroom experiences (OCEs) are a successful way to facilitate all three parts of this goal. The Coordinator of First-Year Community Engagement is a dynamic individual who can build community connections and manage the logistics for OCEs for the faculty and staff members teaching in the program. In addition, this individual will teach four sections of the one-credit FYS course (two-semester sequence) and will provide additional support to specific student populations that span across sections.
