About The Position

The Department of Disability Resources for Students has an outstanding opportunity for a Coordinator – Disability Resources for Students (Program Coordinator (NE S SEIU 925 Non Supv)) to join their team. DRS serves as a partner in fostering an inclusive and equitable environment for all University of Washington students. This position reports to the DRS Director and is part of a department with a federal mandate to determine, implement, and facilitate accommodations for students with documented disabilities. This work involves interaction among complex systems in an increasingly technical field, ensuring compliance with federal and state statutes, and collaboration with individuals from varied backgrounds across the UW tri-campus community to facilitate equal access and inclusion for students with disabilities. The Coordinator – Disability Resources for Students will serve as the primary individual staffing the in-person DRS office and testing center, responsible for administering academic testing accommodations and directly supporting students and their instructors with a variety of concerns. Successful candidates will work well both independently and as part of a team to ensure consistent, excellent service and operations.

Requirements

  • High school graduation or equivalent AND two years of experience in student disability services. Equivalent education and/or experience may substitute for minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license, certification, and/or registration.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 productivity and collaboration tools, including Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneDrive, etc.
  • Experience managing and scheduling calendars.
  • Excellent customer service skills in working with a broad range of constituents, including students, staff, faculty, administrators, parents, and non-University customers.
  • Staffing flexibility to support a variable testing schedule and fluctuating quarterly workflows.
  • Discretion to handle confidential information with a high degree of tact, diplomacy, and strict security.
  • Organizational skills to triage and prioritize competing responsibilities, work efficiently, and meet tight deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail with ability to maintain focus in a busy office environment.
  • Strong, compassionate interpersonal communication skills, including ability to de-escalate high-stress customer interactions and crisis management.
  • Adaptability to respond to unexpected and challenging situations while maintaining professional composure.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of UW systems and procedures (e.g., AIM/myDRS, SDB, EAB/Navigate, EARS/DARS).
  • Experience with academic accommodations and alternative testing implementation, especially in higher education.
  • Understanding of FERPA and other state and federal laws and regulations concerning confidentiality and liability.
  • Familiarity with state and federal laws and regulations pertaining to disability and accessibility (e.g., Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990).

Responsibilities

  • Manage daily operations of the DRS Alternative Testing Center.
  • Coordinate daily, weekly, and quarterly testing calendar.
  • Facilitate communication between instructors and students to arrange testing plans.
  • Identify and resolve issues that arise while advance planning and during real-time service interactions.
  • Prepare materials, equipment, and spaces required for a variety of disability accommodations and exam formats.
  • Check-in and monitor testers to clarify instructions and ensure a secure, reduced-distraction environment.
  • Retain accurate and secure records and files related to accommodate testing.
  • Process new student applications, including triaging emergency requests, light data entry, and management of confidential documents and records in accordance with university policies.
  • Assist students to schedule appointments with DRS Director and Assistant Director.
  • Communicate with prospective students, pending applicants, and their families regarding policies and procedures for establishing accommodations at UW.
  • Provide educational and technical support for students and instructors navigating UW's myDRS system to manage their accommodations.
  • Orient students and instructors to adaptive technology and equipment required for class participation and testing accommodations.
  • Log inventory and usage history for adaptive technology and equipment.
  • Create and revise resources for DRS staff training and customer support.
  • Supervise student staff, including hiring, training, scheduling work shifts, and ensuring confidentiality and academic integrity are maintained while providing excellent customer service.
  • Answer questions and apply DRS policies and procedures in person and via email, phone, video, and other communication channels.
  • Perform general clerical tasks such as filing, scanning, reception, work orders, etc.
  • Report on DRS services provision, including student/faculty usage rates, program summaries, and other pertinent or requested information.
  • Review policies and procedures to recommend improvements and update internal and external documentation, websites, and other materials as needed.
  • Develop collaborative working relationships with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Other tasks and projects as assigned.
