About The Position

The Coordinating Teacher for the Teacher Support Program provides support and assistance to employees, including beginning teachers, alternative licensure teachers, ambassador teachers, and employees new to the district, ensuring their effective transition into the district and specifically into the classroom. This role involves designing and delivering professional learning for all district teachers, including those who may require additional support. The position collaborates with various stakeholders, including Wake County Public School System (WCPSS) Academics, Human Resources, school administrators, mentor coordinators, mentors, and other supervisors to monitor and administer system-wide compliance with the state, federal, and local Beginning Teacher Support Program requirements. This is a 3-year grant-funded position scheduled to end on September 30, 2026.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in General Education or a related field.
  • Four years of teaching experience in a public school setting.
  • Experience in planning and delivering professional learning.
  • Considerable knowledge of the Beginning Teacher Support Program.
  • Considerable knowledge of North Carolina Professional Educator’s Licensure requirements and the licensure renewal process.
  • Considerable knowledge of NCEES and the overall evaluation process of professional staff.
  • Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Google Apps.
  • Considerable knowledge in coaching.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to utilize coaching skills to support planning, reflection, and problem resolution.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in oral and written form.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Education or School Administration.
  • Experience serving as a BTSP Mentor Coordinator or Mentor.
  • Experience serving as an Instructional Facilitator, Math/Literacy Coach, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Establish relationships with new and beginning teachers, their mentors, mentor coordinators, and school administrators to determine gaps in support.
  • Informally observe and mentor beginning teachers to provide feedback on curriculum, instruction, and classroom management.
  • Develop and implement differentiated support plans for teachers, including orientation, induction, mentoring, coaching, and professional learning.
  • Evaluate and monitor the effectiveness of training and its impact on instructional processes, student achievement, and system goals.
  • Assist with the implementation and oversight of employee evaluation and licensure systems, including the NC Educators’ Evaluation System.
  • Conduct licensure reviews to verify program codes and determine appropriate beginning teacher status.
  • Monitor, collect, and review documentation to support compliance with the Beginning Teacher Support Program and alternative licensure requirements.
  • Attend and participate in human resources staff meetings, external committees, professional development, WCPSS recruitment events, and other school system functions.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
