About The Position

Providing support necessary to implement a quality Magnet Program

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Texas Teacher Certification.
  • Three years of exemplary teaching experience.
  • Working knowledge of computers, word processing, data base software preferred.
  • Possession of interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into focus; judge distance (close and distant); reach with arms extended and use hands to manipulate the keyboard.
  • Ability to travel to schools throughout the District.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds; stoop, kneel, crouch, walk, drive and/or be mobile.
  • Valid Texas Driver's license with appropriate insurance.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in carrying out all activities necessary to implement a quality Magnet program.
  • Develop program goals and objectives in collaboration with appropriate personnel.
  • Assist in development and/or writing of specialized curriculum as needed.
  • Research and provide teachers with appropriate enrichment materials and equipment.
  • Assist with the preparation of budget, financial reports, requisitions and inventory.
  • Coordinate enrichment activities such as field trips, speakers, and educational presentations.
  • Organize a recordkeeping system to monitor program goals, objectives, budgeting expenditures, and inventory.
  • Participate in ongoing evaluation and modification of the program.
  • Confer with prospective students and parents and initiates parental involvement activities.
  • Participate in screening processes to identify students interested in participating in the program.
  • Establish and maintain open communication with the community.
  • Serve as primary liaison with Transportation Department in matters relating to Magnet students.
  • Assist principal in effective utilization of paraprofessional Magnet staff.
  • Assist principal in selection and utilization of Magnet personnel as requested.
  • Exemplify and develop positive interpersonal relations among teachers, students, staff, and other personnel.
  • Assist principal in coordinating the Magnet program with that of the regular school's instructional program.
  • Serve as assessor of teacher(s) as assigned.
  • Serve as primary liaison with Special Education Department for Magnet student acceptance
  • Seek business and community financial support and other outside sources for funding.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the principal.
