About The Position

The Cook is responsible for preparing nutritious, appetizing meals for residents in accordance with dietary guidelines, physician orders, and state regulations. This role supports resident health and satisfaction by ensuring meals are safe, properly prepared, and served on time.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Previous experience in food service, healthcare, or institutional cooking preferred
  • Knowledge of therapeutic diets and nutrition basics
  • Ability to read and follow standardized recipes and dietary instructions
  • Strong attention to detail and cleanliness
  • Time management and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to follow safety and sanitation procedures
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • Compassion and understanding when serving elderly residents

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook meals following planned menus and dietary requirements (including low-sodium, diabetic, pureed diets, etc.)
  • Ensure compliance with Louisiana Department of Health regulations and sanitation standards
  • Follow food safety guidelines in line with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
  • Portion and serve meals according to dietary specifications
  • Monitor food temperatures and maintain proper storage procedures
  • Assist in menu planning and accommodate special dietary needs
  • Maintain cleanliness of kitchen equipment, utensils, and work areas
  • Receive and store food supplies properly
  • Work closely with dietary staff, nurses, and supervisors to meet resident needs
