Cook 5-E6 This position functions as a cook, performing a full range of cooking and food preparation for the service of meals for prisoners and staff in a correctional facility using MDOC standardized processes, recipes, menus and reports. This position will work in the facility kitchens with prisoner workers. Cook 7 This position functions as a lead worker and oversees prisoner workers in the preparation and service of meals for prisoners and staff in a correctional facility using MDOC standardized processes, recipes, menus and reports.

Requirements

  • Education typically acquired through completion of high school.
  • Cook 5: No specific type or amount is required.
  • Cook E6: One year of experience in quantity cooking and food preparation.
  • Cook 7: Two years of experience in quantity cooking and food preparation, including one year equivalent to a Cook E6.
  • The Department of Correction may screen out individuals who have been convicted of a felony in accordance with Public Act 191 of 2017.
  • An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor or felony shall not be eligible for employment until one year after satisfactory completion of any sentence imposed, including parole or probation. However, an applicant with a conviction for a violation of the controlled substance act or criminal sexual conduct in any jurisdiction, including the military, will be ineligible for consideration for employment by the Department of Corrections.

All new employees will complete additional online training to successfully complete their non-custody new employee training.
