About The Position

University Housing is looking for Cooks to join our team! Join our group of food service staff made up of talented professionals dedicated to providing our residents, staff, and visitors with nutritious meals made from locally sourced ingredients and produce. As a Cook in University Housing you will: Perform food production to include batch cooking, cook-to-flow, and made-to-order display cooking Perform duties in a high-volume, dynamic, student residential dining environment Interact with English speaking customers while displaying knowledge of food products, allergens and food safety Demonstrate and role model exceptional customer service Provide support and assist as needed in the implementation of plans and procedures in the event of an emergency Work Schedule: Multiple vacancies may be available The primary schedule for this position typically consists of five, 8-hour shifts per week that may fall on any day of the week. Schedules may rotate every other weekend Operational and work schedules will be closely aligned with the services and customer needs of the unit. As a result, work schedules may be adjusted during specific times of the year, including summer and winter break hours This is a full-time ongoing appointment This position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location Work schedule will be set with selected finalist(s) at time of offer. Schedule alterations as operations and position expectations demand. Department: University Housing, University Housing Dining & Culinary Services University Housing Dining and Culinary Services provides affordable meals made from locally sourced ingredients and innovative dining options to residents, guests, and staff. We have market-place style locations in six buildings throughout campus. These marketplaces offer a new variety of selections each day, as well as made-to-order stations. Additionally, there are convenience stores, coffeehouses, and two franchises throughout campus, as well as a Catering, and Central Production and Bakery operation. Within the Eagle Heights Community Garden, Dining and Culinary Services has a 1-acre Campus Farm producing vegetables that are used in menus in marketplaces, as well as in Grab & Go items in convenience stores and on the Electric Eats Food Truck.

Requirements

  • 1 year of food production experience in a professional kitchen setting
  • ServSafe Food Handler Certificate or ability to obtain within the first 6 months of employment
  • English Proficiency Required - This position requires the ability to speak, read, and understand verbal instructions in English.

Nice To Haves

  • Over 1 year of institution-scale food service production experience in a professional kitchen setting
  • High School diploma preferred

Responsibilities

  • Trains and guides student workers
  • Adheres to federal, state, campus, and local food safety regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Greets customers, answers questions, and provides information regarding food preparation and associated activities
  • Cleans, inspects, and maintains kitchen equipment and work areas
  • Performs routine and non-routine food preparation activities including cook to order and specialty foods
