About The Position

The cook assists with preparing menus, inventory control, and maintains a clean or organized safe kitchen environment. This position is responsible for preparing the food in an appetizing and appealing manner. Essential functions include identifying and reporting food and supplies needed for the next week’s menus, assisting in the receiving, rotation, and storage of products, and preparing menus and cooking food in accordance with nutritional guidelines, regulations, and residents’ individual prescribed diets and food preferences. The cook also assists in fostering residents’ independence with eating by providing adaptive equipment when needed, prepares food and coordinates food services for special community events when requested, and notifies the Director of Food and Beverage of any malfunctioning kitchen equipment or appliances. Ensuring proper storage and handling of food in accordance with infection control standards is crucial. The role requires the ability to work in a safe and alert manner, take ownership for associate’s safety and the safety of the residents, and disclose any medication that might impair the associate’s ability to perform the job safely or competently. Non-essential functions include leading by example exhibiting the CORE Values through servant leadership, encouraging teamwork and promoting company philosophy, attending required community meetings and participating in Life Enrichment activities when able, completing all required courses in adherence with HRA University, and being prompt and able to perform the required duties of the position on a regular, predictable basis. Associates must also become familiar with and understand how to report a missing person using the Safe Return program or equivalent, understand the steps for fire evacuation, and are responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for all community residents.

Requirements

  • Must have a high school education
  • Knowledge of state food-handling and kitchen regulations
  • Knowledge of OSHA Standards and fire and safety procedures
  • Ability to work in a safe and alert manner
  • Ability to take ownership for associate’s safety and the safety of the residents
  • Must disclose any medication that might impair associate’s ability to perform the job safely or competently
  • Level 2 background screening through the Florida Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse (for Florida Companies)
