About The Position

The Actors Fund Home, an assisted living, skilled nursing, accredited dementia care and sub-acute rehabilitation center located in Englewood, NJ, and a recipient of a CMS Five Star rating, seeks a Full Time Cook to perform food preparation and cooking services for residents and staff in accordance with food safety regulations to ensure that quality food and service is provided at all times. Nursing home cooking experience preferred with knowledge of resident diets, therapeutic food, specialty meals and modified diets as they relate to senior living in a healthcare environment. ABOUT THIS POSITION This is a full time (40 hours) hourly position based at The Actors Fund Home in Englewood, NJ. The schedule for this position will be from 5:00am to 1:30pm or 10:30am to 7:00pm.The successful candidate must be able to cover assigned shifts on a regular basis, including weekends, holidays, and should be available to cover vacations/call outs of other cooks on occasion.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 1-2 years of experience with institutional cooking in a healthcare setting
  • Knowledge of therapeutic diets for nursing home residents
  • ServSafe Certified or able to certify within 90 days
  • Ability to lift various carton weights up to 40 lbs
  • Ability to work in cooperation with other staff members and multitask in a faced paced environment
  • Ability to read, write and comprehend English and follow verbal and written instructions accurately
  • Able to make simple calculations
  • Maintain required records as necessary
  • An understanding of, affection for, and a desire to work with seniors

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and serve meals for residents and staff in accordance with food safety regulations and within physician’s/nutritionists’ dietary recommendations
  • Maintain high standard of food preparation, sanitation, storage, and portion control
  • Determine food and supplies needed for daily menus; obtain supplies in time for adequate production
  • Plan food production to coordinate with meal serving hours so that quality, temperature, and appearance of food is preserved
  • Assist in scheduled cleaning duties following established sanitary standards
  • Assist in supervising dietary functions and personnel in absence of supervisor as directed
