About The Position

Under general direction, adheres to Department of Health guidelines and provides meal preparation for two community kitchens (Hornell and Bath, NY). Effectively supports ongoing and collaborative communication amongst all program staff and volunteers, following established agency communication protocols.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • L1 Certification (Food Handler in Charge) National Restaurant Association’s ServSafe.
  • Minimum of three years experience cooking for large numbers
  • Relevant years of experience and education will be considered
  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends, flexible schedule to meet program needs.
  • Possession of a valid NYS Driver’s license and a driver's record considered acceptable by agency and insurance carrier.
  • Continuous use of a reliable, registered, and insured vehicle.
  • Ability to prioritize assignments, plan, and complete work projects with minimal direction
  • Exceptional time management skills and ability to effectively and meet deadlines
  • Excellent verbal/written skills
  • Ability to work in the following software programs: Windows, Microsoft Office, and multiple online software platforms as required by funders and partner organizations
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle confidential information with discretion
  • Ability to demonstrate behaviors and attitudes which support organizational mission, philosophy, and policies
  • Ability to work in a cooperative and helpful manner with all individuals
  • Willingness and ability to foster agency and program wide cooperation and teamwork through use of positive/constructive communication techniques

Responsibilities

  • Prepares meals for the community soup kitchens
  • Develops nutritious menus
  • Responsible for inventory of food and supplies to report to Operations Director
  • Responsible for ordering or purchasing food for both kitchens
  • Coordinates and directs volunteers that support the community kitchens
  • Follows Department of Health regulations for food preparation, serving, and storage.
  • Conducts daily temperature testing on the refrigerator and freezers; maintains tracking log
  • Maintain cleanliness of both kitchens’ workspace and appliances
  • Report any necessary repairs or issues to Operations Director
  • Conducts quality inspection prior to each meal service to ensure safety and adequate amount of savory food is served
  • Participates in relevant Agency meetings and/or trainings
  • Actively pursues development of professional competencies related to job role performance through reading, supervision, in-service training, and attendance at conferences and workshops.
  • Awareness and active support of the Agency's Mission, Vision, Values, and Strategic Plan, including, but not limited to, supporting the Agency's Core Competency initiatives of being Collaborative and Community Focused, Innovative and Entrepreneurial, and Culturally Competent and Diverse
  • Completes other duties as assigned.
