About The Position

The Quincy Kroc Center is seeking a seasonal Cook to support our Summer Feeding Program. This position plays a direct role in ensuring children in the community receive safe, nutritious, and welcoming meals during the summer months. The Cook is responsible for preparing meals, maintaining a clean and organized kitchen, and ensuring all food service operations meet established safety and health standards. This is a hands-on role that requires efficiency, attention to detail, and a commitment to serving.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Must have or obtain food handling certification within 30 days of hire.
  • One (1) year cooking experience preferred.
  • Ability to operate industrial and standard kitchen equipment such as dishwashing machines, garbage disposals, and three-compartment sinks.
  • Understanding of safe food handling practices in a commercial kitchen environment
  • Strong organizational skills and close attention to detail
  • Service-oriented mindset with a willingness to help others
  • Ability to work independently while also contributing as part of a team.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to lift and carry 25lbs
  • Valid Drivers license and insured, reliable transportation
  • Must pass The Salvation Army Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check and background check

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of health codes in the Quincy, IL area is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and serve meals in accordance with Illinois Summer Feeding Site Program (SFSP) requirements and food handling certification standards.
  • Comply with all applicable state and local health regulations in kitchen operations.
  • Ensure the dining room and food service areas are cleaned and sanitized before and after meal service.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment.
  • Keep pantry, refrigerator, and freezer storage areas organized and properly labeled.
  • Monitor and record food temperatures to ensure compliance with food safety requirements.
