The cook assists with preparing menus, inventory control, and maintains a clean or organized safe kitchen environment. This position is responsible for preparing the food in an appetizing and appealing manner. Essential functions include identifying and reporting food and supplies needed, assisting in receiving, rotation, and storage of products, preparing menus and cooking food according to nutritional guidelines, regulations, and residents’ individual prescribed diets and food preferences. The cook also assists in fostering residents’ independence with eating by providing adaptive equipment, prepares food and coordinates food services for special community events, and notifies the Dir. of Food and Beverage of any malfunctioning kitchen equipment. Ensuring proper storage and handling of food in accordance with infection control standards, working safely, taking ownership for safety, and disclosing any impairing medication are also essential. Non-essential functions include exhibiting CORE Values, encouraging teamwork, attending meetings, completing HRA University courses, being prompt and predictable, and understanding Safe Return and fire evacuation procedures. All associates are responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment.
