About The Position

The Cook is responsible for preparing and serving meals for clients, maintaining kitchen cleanliness and food safety standards, and supporting a positive, respectful dining environment. This role focuses on meal preparation with limited procurement responsibilities and follows established menus and guidelines.

Requirements

Six (6) months to one (1) year of experience in food preparation or a similar kitchen role
A current Alaska food worker’s card or ability to obtain one upon hire
Ability to: Pass a drug screening and State of Alaska background check
Qualify for SFA’s commercial automobile insurance
Basic understanding of cooking techniques and safe food handling practices
Ability to create menus, and follow recipes, and instructions consistently
Excellent written, verbal and organizational skills
Punctuality and consist reliability in reporting to work
Understanding of trauma informed care and awareness of cultural differences
The ability to: Be a team player, demonstrating motivation, exercising discretion and dependability
Be a model to people in recovery
Build rapport with clients and staff while maintaining professional boundaries
Maintain confidentiality and treat everyone with dignity and respect
Basic computer skills and fluid use of electronic communication tools

Responsibilities

Prepare and serve meals for clients according to established menus and guidelines
Assist with kitchen procurement and restocking
Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen, equipment, and food preparation areas
Support proper food storage, labeling, and inventory rotation
Follow all food safety, infection control, and organizational policies
Communicate effectively with program staff regarding meal service needs or concerns
Interact with clients in a respectful, trauma-informed manner while maintaining professional boundaries
