About The Position

The Cook / Shift Leader is responsible for leading the food service team in the preparation
and service of high-quality meals, ensuring a positive experience for guests and staff
through excellence in hospitality and food ministry. This role focuses on leadership during
meal shifts, food safety, cleanliness, and customer service at Santa Barbara Christian Camp.

Requirements

• Godly Christian character, integrity and adaptability.
• Current Food Handlers Certificate from Santa Barbara County, CPR & First Aid certified
• Minimum 18 years of age.
• Minimum of High School Degree or equivalent.
• Experience working with children and youth.
• Organizational strengths and the ability to work quickly
• Agreement with Santa Barbara Christian Camp doctrinal statement and compliance with employee handbook
• Ability to accept guidance and supervision.
• A pleasant personality (even in stressful situations) towards guests and co-workers.
• Ability to lead and organize group games.
• Ability to work under time pressure.
• Ability to communicate and work with groups participating (age and skill levels) and to provide necessary instruction to campers and/or staff.
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
• Must be able to stand for long periods of time and work in hot or cold weather
• Physical strength and endurance to maintain constant supervision of campers.
• Abilities sufficient to carry out the essential functions of the job.

Responsibilities

• Lead and direct the kitchen team in all phases of meal preparation and service, following established procedures.
• Maintain a clean and sanitary kitchen environment that meets or exceeds regulatory health and safety standards.
• Implement and follow opening and closing procedures for the kitchen and dining facilities.
• Collaborate with team members to anticipate and meet guest needs effectively.
• Model and uphold a strong work ethic and positive attitude for co-workers.
• Assists in the collection, record keeping and deposit of course fees.
• Assists with recreation sign ups
• Assists with lakefront activities
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor
