PRIMARY FUNCTION: To prepare and serve food to patients and customers according to standardized recipes. Responsible for opening and closing the department, which includes cash handling procedures. Provides direction to Cook I’s and Service Assistants. Demonstrates ability to convert recipes and can evaluate and communicate forecasting food changes. This role requires potentially rotating shifts that include 5:30am-2:00pm; 6:00am-2:30pm; 7:00am-3:30pm; 9:30am-5:00pm; and 10:30pm-7:00pm as well as EVERY OTHER WEEKEND REQUIRED AND SOME HOLIDAYS.

Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Six months food service experience preferred.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
• Knowledge of food service equipment operation and use.
• Knowledge of departmental policies and procedures.
• Ability to read and follow standardized recipes.
• Ability to calculate recipe quantities and extensions using simple math.
• Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
• Ability to exercise judgement in response to customer/patient demands.
• Ability to manage stress in a highly visible service organization.
• Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and other departments.
• Ability to measure food quantities.
• Must pass physical examination: drug-free; able to hear; able to see; able to speak; able to ambulate.
• Ability to lift, carry, pull, push, reach, handle, stand, stoop and bend to accommodate foodservice demands on a continuous basis.
• Must have developed sense of olfactory and gustatory abilities.

• Prepares a wide variety of foods, such as: soups, sauces, gravies, dressings, meats, fish, poultry, fresh, frozen, canned, and dehydrated vegetables, ensuring the attractiveness, palatability and temperature of food in accordance with standardized recipes and standard operating procedures.
• Provide on the job continuing education to cook I and II staff.
