The Cook I position at Cincinnati Children's Hospital is a full-time role primarily responsible for preparing and serving food during the 3rd shift, which runs from 7:00 PM to 3:30 AM, Monday through Friday, with rotating weekends and holidays. The candidate will rotate through various workstations, including Pizza, Deli, Salad Bar, and Grill, and may also be trained as a back-up cashier to assist during breaks. This role requires a combination of back-of-house cooking skills and customer service abilities, as the individual will be interacting with both staff and guests while ensuring high standards of food preparation and safety are maintained. In this position, the Cook I will measure and mix ingredients according to recipes and proper cooking standards, utilizing a variety of kitchen utensils and equipment such as scales, mixers, grinders, and slicers. The cook will be responsible for baking, roasting, broiling, steaming, and frying various foods, while also observing and tasting the food to adjust flavors and textures as necessary. Proper portioning of food onto patient and guest trays is essential, along with adherence to cleanliness and safety protocols in compliance with Department of Health standards. The Cook I will also be expected to attend required monthly in-services and comply with Infection Control policies and procedures. The role involves planning and reviewing menus and production sheets to determine the types and quantities of food to be prepared, ensuring that all items are ready at specified times. The Cook I will prepare food items by washing, trimming, and seasoning, and will also be responsible for maintaining accurate records of food transportation and waste management. Safety is a critical component of this role, and the Cook I will maintain a safety program within the department, reporting any safety concerns appropriately. Customer service is also a key aspect, as the Cook I will demonstrate effective service to fellow employees, customers, managers, and visitors, adhering to CARES standards at all times.
