About The Position

The Cook in Dining Services is responsible for preparing necessary food items for breakfast, dinner, or supper according to cycle menus. This role involves serving meals and maintaining a clean, sanitary work environment. The Cook checks and leaves all equipment in clean, operative condition at the end of each shift and performs any other tasks as directed by the supervisor.

Requirements

  • Culinary School degree preferred.
  • Must possess 3 years institutional food preparation.
  • Knowledge of modified diets helpful.
  • Must have knowledge of materials and methods used in large-scale food production.
  • Supervisory experience necessary.
  • Must be 18 years of age to use equipment.
  • Must be highly motivated to produce and serve foods of high nutritional quality.
  • Must be able to observe infection control procedures related to the Dining Services Department.
  • Must abide by the proper dress code.
  • Must accept and be supportive of the Dining Services Department's goals.
  • Must possess high personal standards of cleanliness and maintain a clean, safe working area.
  • Good organizational and time management skills required.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares food in amounts according to tally.
  • Follows recipes.
  • Completes 'prep list' assignment.
  • Prepares food for catering events as assigned.
  • Knowledge and appreciation of department equipment.
  • Maintains a clean, sanitary and safe work environment.
  • Records food temperatures.
  • Labels and stores food properly.
