About The Position

We are recruiting for a motivated Cook - Food and Nutrition Services to join our team! We are here for life’s journey. Where is your life journey taking you? Under general supervision, prepares and cooks food for hospital patients, hospital employees and visitors. Prepares food according to recipes, menus, special dietary or nutritional restrictions, or numbers of portions to be served. Compiles and maintains records of food use and expenditures. Follows and implements HACCP guidelines. Complies with regulatory agency requirements.

Requirements

• No High School Diploma and/or No GED required
• Less than 1 year of work experience required
• Knowledge of food preparation techniques.
• Ability to read and follow recipes.
• Knowledge of and/or ability to learn safety hazards and necessary safety precautions sufficient to be able to establish a safe work environment.
• Knowledge of and/or ability to learn chemicals and equipment used to clean surface areas sufficient to be able to maintain a clean and orderly work area.
• Skill in understanding and following oral, illustrated, written or demonstrated instructions.
• Ability to communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and serves food to customers and/or patients at an a la carte and/or grill station.
• Reads food order or receives verbal instructions, and cooks food according to menus, special dietary or nutritional restrictions, or numbers of portions to be served.
• Operates a variety of kitchen utensils and equipment to measure, blend, chop, slice and mix ingredients, washing, peeling, cutting and shredding fruits and vegetables, desserts and other foodstuffs for consumption.
• Take and record food and refrigeration temperatures on the appropriate HACCP logs. Document corrective actions.
• Alerts supervisor to problems and needs concerning equipment and food supplies. Detects and reports spoiled or unattractive food, defective supplies and equipment or other unusual conditions.
• Maintains and establishes departmental policies, procedures, objections, quality assurance programs and health and safety standards.
• Ensures that necessary sanitary levels are maintained throughout the food preparation process, and that all foods prepared meet existing standards for quality, freshness, taste and appearance.
• May receive inventory, move or lift foodstuffs and supplies and prepare meals requiring special diets.
