About The Position

The position is responsible for daily cooking and other duties associated with the operation of the learning center's food program. The role is part-time, requiring 25 hours per week, and reports to the Center Director. The individual will be involved in preparing meals and snacks for children, maintaining cleanliness in the kitchen, managing food inventory, and assisting with the care of children as needed.

  • Ability to follow directions.
  • Ability to cook and handle the pressure of a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to communicate with local vendors in a professional manner.
  • Ability to meet all requirements concerning food preparation.
  • Willingness to adhere to all Salvation Army guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Cooks/prepares all meals and snacks for children enrolled in the center.
  • Follows specifications of food menu and prepares proper serving sizes/portions based on children's ages.
  • Keeps the kitchen, refrigerator/freezer, and storage areas properly cleaned and sanitized.
  • Cleans all counter tops as needed and/or daily, and cleans all counter/table legs weekly.
  • Sweeps kitchen daily and washes dish towels/rags as needed.
  • Washes all dishes daily and takes out trash daily.
  • Plans the usage of food to avoid waste and rotates food from storage areas to refrigerator/freezer.
  • Throws away all expired food.
  • Assists with ordering all food and maintaining inventory, including bi-weekly or as-needed inventory of all food/supplies.
  • Plans, shops, and transports all food/supplies to be purchased at the grocery store weekly or as needed.
  • Communicates any ordering needs or concerns with the center director or administrative assistant.
  • Logs all time worked with the food program.
  • Acquires and maintains any training, certifications, or knowledge needed to carry out food duties.
  • Follows all USDA CACFP guidelines and maintains kitchen/food standards in compliance with local health department guidelines.
  • Cares for children as needed and assists teachers during lunch breaks, bathroom breaks, etc.
