About The Position

The Cook/Baker position at Carson High School involves performing skilled, large quantity cooking and baking in the preparation of main dishes, vegetables, sauces, gravies, breads, desserts, and other items. The role includes serving food to students and staff, maintaining kitchen and serving areas in a clean and orderly condition, and performing related work as required. Cook/Bakers may be reassigned to locations that best serve the needs of the students and the school district. This is a replacement position, and candidates must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical, and lift test.

Requirements

• Graduation from high school or equivalent is preferred.
• Completion of formal or informal training in baking and cooking, or a closely related field.
• Experience performing the work of a journey cook or baker.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical, and lift test.
• Possession of a valid driver's license and an original Social Security Card.
• Ability to secure a Food Protection Manager Certification.

Responsibilities

• Measure, weigh, and mix ingredients for food preparation.
• Increase and break down recipes to produce specified quantities of food.
• Check foods for taste and appearance.
• Prepare salads, hot and cold sandwiches, and entrée items.
• Mix spices and ingredients to produce desired taste, texture, and color.
• Wash, peel, cut, and shred vegetables.
• Slice and grate vegetables, fruits, meats, and cheese.
• Assemble finished food products and serve on the serving line.
• Maintain kitchen sanitation and cleanliness.
• Clean and store cafeteria equipment and food supplies.
• Operate ovens, steam tables, and other food service equipment.
• Keep accurate records of quantities used and ingredients needed.
• Assist and instruct helpers or new personnel in methods and procedures.
• Test new recipes and make appropriate recommendations.
• Collaborate with other staff members and students in a positive manner.
