About The Position

The Cook 1 position at the Washington Center for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Youth is a full-time role focused on preparing and serving nutritious meals to students and staff at the Washington School for the Deaf. This position works closely with the Food Service Manager and other food service staff to ensure compliance with USDA guidelines and best practices in a residential school environment. The role is scheduled for approximately 10 months during the school year, with no scheduled hours during school breaks.

Requirements

  • Experience in food preparation and cooking in a large-scale setting.
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.
  • Ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

  • Familiarity with USDA guidelines for food service.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and handle food safely in accordance with menus and state and federal laws.
  • Cook meals for up to 200 students and staff, including special diets and catering requests.
  • Regularly use and clean kitchen equipment such as grills, ovens, and slicers.
  • Collaborate with food service staff to serve meals in a friendly and safe atmosphere.
  • Assist the Food Service Manager with menu planning and recipe development.
